Playgroup<\/strong> is a Johannesburg-based multidisciplinary art collective whose main creative and theoretical interest is in the city space, with a particular focus on how it is experienced through sound. The group has three members: Jurgen Meekel, Jill Richards, and Barend Engelbrecht. Jurgen Meekel, a multi-disciplinary artist and lecturer at Wits University, explores various fields within filmmaking, with a particular interest in the intersection of visual art and sound art. Jill Richards is a classically trained pianist, free improviser, sound artist and inter-disciplinary collaborator. Barend Engelbrecht is an artist and researcher. His current research interest aims to provide an auditory perspective on the relationship between urban design and the cultural ecology of the city.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jill Richards<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jill Richards is a South African pianist working primarily in Johannesburg and Europe. Her musical interests range from contemporary classical music and free improvisation, as well as the standard piano repertoire.
An important part of Jill\u2019s work is collaborating with artists from a wide range of disciplines – music, visual art, video, dance, theatre and poetry. Collaborators include include Kevin Volans, William Kentridge, Francisco Lopez, Sudeep Sen, Marcus Neustetter and Dorothee Kreuzfeldt.
Jill has released seven CDs, including three of the music of Kevin Volans, who has dedicated a number of works to her. Jill Richards is a Steinway Artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
